What Sets Wilmot Apart?
As a part of the Jeffco Public Schools, Wilmot Elementary follows the Colorado Academic Standards aligned with the national common core standards. The staff voted unanimously to adopt EL Education English Language Arts curriculum based on high-quality reading materials, alignment with the science of reading, emphasis on authentic writing, and the integration of social emotional components.
The three pillars of EL Education are:
- Mastery of knowledge and skills
- Character development
- High-quality work
As an EL school, our vision is that students should be judged by the quality of their work and character, not just their test scores. We believe that social, emotional, and academic development are all connected and support each other. When students excel in all three areas, they are better able to shape their futures.
“We are crew, not passengers” (Hahn) is a belief that helps empower students to be active participants in creating an inclusive classroom and school culture and being leaders of their own learning. The culture of crew impels all members of a school community to work together as a team, to pitch in, and to help others. In Crew meetings, students cultivate the habits of ethical people and effective learners so they can make authentic contributions to a better school, community, and world.
