Gifted & Talented and ALP

Students who demonstrate understanding and achievement that are significantly above grade level based on a body of evidence are evaluated for an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP).  At Wilmot Elementary, at least one teacher per grade is Gifted and Talented endorsed by the Colorado Department of Education. Our teachers are adept at meeting a wide variety of student needs, including challenging our most gifted learners. Students work with their teachers to set ALP goals in their area of strength and collaboratively design a project to showcase their learning. ALP students in third, fourth, and fifth grades have the opportunity to work on their independent project during school hours with the guidance and support of an adult. Students in kindergarten through second grade set goals with their teacher, but work on their ALP project primarily at home.  All students have the opportunity to share their project with their classmates, teacher, other Wilmot students, their parents, and the broader Wilmot community at a showcase in the spring.  Questions regarding Gifted and Talented identification and programming can be directed to our Gifted and Talented Resource Teacher, Craig Walker, or to our GT liaison, Amy Vermeulen.  Their contact information can be found on the Staff Directory tab.
