English as a Second Language (ESL)

Wilmot Elementary offers English as a Second Language (ESL) support to English Language Learners in the building. Guided by Jeffco Public Schools criteria, ESL staff provide additional instructional services to children who speak or understand more than one language to ensure academic success in their grade level classrooms. ESL staff use specific strategies to support English language development (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in all content areas: literacy, math, social studies, science and electives.

Having taught for over 20 years, with more than half of those in Evergreen, I am honored to continue to be the Evergreen community ESL teacher. I am as passionate as ever to teach, connect with and advocate for Bergen’s students and families.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Colorado State University and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado University of Denver. The latter is specifically in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile and have traveled to various countries encompassing five continents. Before serving Evergreen, I taught kindergarten in DPS for five years and middle school for four. My educational path has developed my passion for human development, education, cultures and languages.

I love teaching in Evergreen with some of the best educators in the state. Additionally, I am proud to partner with Bergen parents and community outreach programs. I consider being an ESL teacher a unique opportunity to learn about the world through each of my students and families!

When I am not teaching, I love spending time outdoors, traveling and adventuring with my children. During the summer we enjoyed many family activities including traveling, swimming and paddleboarding. In the winter, we spend most of our weekends in Winter Park, since I love to snowboard.

I look forward to teaming with you all this year.
