Girls after the Candy Run 2018

The Girls on the Run after-school program started back in 2006 at Wilmot and we are thrilled to offer it again this fall.  GOTR is an innovative program that combines training for a 3.1 mile run/walk race with a fun, health education lesson plan. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. We will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm from Sept 11- Nov 15. Open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls. For more information about the program go to www.girlsontherunrockies.org.

Contact Karen MacFarquhar at [email protected] or 303-520-4989, or Trisha Mihalik [email protected] with questions about GOTR at Wilmot.

What if my daughter doesn’t like to run?

We use the term “running” loosely – girls can run, hop, skip, speed walk or dance towards their goals. The lessons promote self-challenge instead of competition; self-worth instead of societal worth; and cooperation instead of rivalry.

The goals for each girl are to:

Understand her place in the community
Have a strong sense of identity
Learn how to give and receive support in a group
Learn to stand up for herself in a healthy manner
Have an improved body image
Complete a 5K run/walk event in the community
